2019: The Year of the Woman

It’s Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments and empowerment of women everywhere. Now I may be speaking too soon, but so far 2019 has been a fantastic year for women. With over 120 Congressional seats currently being held by women, to the numerous women (and especially women of color) who won Oscars, 2019 is shaping up to be amazingly feminine, despite the odds. On a personal level, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and sharing space with many great women this year. I made it my personal mission to attend at least 50 events this year, and I’ve managed to secure connections on so many levels with extremely talented and wonderful women.

In January, I met Violesia Tull and M. Reese Everson. Violesia runs Fashionably Chic Tour, a blog, personal styling and travel series for women who wish to experience fashion on a higher level. M. Reese Everson is the founder of Babes in the Workplace, and she actually invited me to her Digital Vision Board Party, which was an amazing start to the year. The vision board party was held at Carolina Herrera in DC, which was the perfect backdrop for me to speak my goals and desires into existence. Both women have personally inspired me and held me accountable for everything I would like to accomplish this year, and I’m so grateful for that.

I met some wonderful women in February at New York Fashion Week, including the ladies of Influencing in Color. Collectively, they are #goals, but each member has her own unique style and flair, which I love so much. I met other influencers and people in the industry while at fashion week, many of whom were exceptional in providing inspiration and advice for how I can better my business and brand moving forward. On a personal level, I’ve been strengthening my tribe of strong women to help, look up to and turn to for support. I’ve always had a strong bond with my family, and it’s been amazing to interact with other like-minded ladies who are rooted in sisterhood and love.

With all these factors, there’s no doubt that 2019 will be an excellent year for women, and I’m excited to see it all unfold.
