Happy Friday, lovelies! This week marks 2 months since I big chopped again, and I’m here to check in. By far, this is probably one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. I absolutely love my cut, and I honestly take better care of my hair when it’s short. Sure, we all lust after the glorious afros and gorgeous curls that the IG-popular natural hair gurus have. But no one really talks about the downfalls of having all that hair. Or, specifically, the sect of the community who enjoys wearing protective styles year-round because their hair is just too much to handle regularly. I recently discovered that I wasn’t alone in that sentiment, and no longer feel shy about speaking on it. But that discussion deserves its own post altogether (I can talk for days about this subject!).
I polled everyone on my Instagram stories last week if you guys would be interested in an updated hair routine, and I’m here to deliver! My routine has actually simplified significantly since I have less hair (as funny as that might sound). I’ve cut down on wash time and product usage. I co-wash once a week, and I’ve been really into the AG Hair Care Curl Thrive conditioner lately. It came in my swag bag from Curl Talk (thanks so much, by the way!), and I love that it doesn’t dry my hair out. It also gives me great definition, which I absolutely need with shorter hair! I had previously been using the Tea Tree Tingle conditioner from Trader Joe’s because it has great slip for detangling my coily hair. However, I don’t have all that hair anymore, so I needed something a bit more hydrating, and this AG conditioner gives me all of that. It also smells amazing! Find it here.
I detangle my hair with this brush I bought from Sally’s last year. I like it because it’s the perfect size for my small hands while I’m in the shower, versus a huge wide toothed comb, or a paddle brush. The best part is, I don’t have all that hair to comb through anymore, so detangling only takes a few minutes! I don’t recall the name of this brush specifically, but I will link some similar products here.
After my co-wash (which only takes 15 minutes now *praise hands*), I use the Froetry Believe It’s Butta Moisturizing Soufflé. I came across this brand at Curl Talk, and I’m so happy I did. I’ve always loved thick styling creams for my hair, as it requires a lot of moisture, and this product does the job nicely, as it’s enhanced with shea butter, argan and pomegranate seed oils. A little goes a long way with this product, as I only use a dime sized amount for my whole head. Find it here.
Would you believe me if I told you that this is all I do? Yes, that’s it! Short hair equals short routine, which means more time for me to spend picking out amazing looks in the mornings. Thanks for reading! What are your current faves for hair care products?
