Flowers Fashion Show: Uniting DC Creatives by Design

One of the things I love most about living in the DC area is that our fashion scene is growing fast. The DMV has this stigma for creatives not wanting to support each other, or give back to the community once they leave; this can be true, but not always the case. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Flowers, a fashion show headlined by Wizzolx (@wizzolx on IG), a local streetwear designer.

Part of the beauty behind any Wizzolx fashion show is that he never forgets to look out for DC, always including other upcoming designers and creatives in his process. This show was no exception, as the most moving moment was when a roll call was given for any upcoming designers or creatives in the audience. It was amazing to see the community come together, and the designs I saw come down the runway were nothing short of fabulous. (Sidebar: please forgive the photo quality for some, I had seating problems throughout the event.)

There were many looks that I absolutely loved, but the main event was the Flowers collection. I’ve always enjoyed Wizzolx’s style, but I especially loved this recent collection. Pictured above are a few of my favorites (I really need that Aaliyah jacket though!). I was able to catch a little time with Dante, CEO and designer of Wizzolx, before the show. When asked about the inspiration behind his collection (debuted at the show), he stated, “[…] a new birth of life, that’s the definition of a flower.” The color palette is very reminiscent of spring, and the gorgeous puffer jackets "bloom" in layers around the neckline, indeed resembling flowers. This collection was right on time, putting me in a positive mindset with warmer weather around the corner.

Wizzolx always puts on a good show, and consistently brings the DC creative community together. A huge thank you to Dante for giving me access to the event! I can't wait for the next one.
